A Short Statement on Migrants

Updated: Aug 22, 2022

Over the past several days, the Governor of Texas has been bussing migrants into New York City to an uncertain fate. Thankfully, individuals and mutual-aid groups have dropped off supplies and welcomed newcomers, among other actions, to aid in addressing these issues, given the migrants' sudden and empty-handed arrival. The city government's approach, however, has been one of shortcomings, encapsulated in the New York City Mayor Eric Adams's high-profile photo-ops with the migrants while simultaneously failing to provide the support necessary to keep asylum-seekers safe in New York City. This has been the line of criticism rightfully raised by Team TLC NYC, Grannies Respond, and South Bronx Mutual Aid. These groups have also criticized other underhanded tactics, such as city officials and the Mayor preventing mutual-aid groups from providing support. At one point, city officials were even giving out food brought by these groups after the city officials pushed the mutual-aid groups out yet then handed off the migrants to them once the migrants were deemed not to need medical attention. [1] [2]

It is said that the migrants are being held in the city’s homeless-shelter system with its dismal conditions, such as lack of edible food, medical emergencies going unattended, little to no toilet paper or other toiletries, violence, and a lack of legal counsel for migrants. All of these problems have been further exacerbated by Adams’s decision to scale back the city’s shelter expansion plan [3] [4].

With all this said, the New York Transhumanist Party calls on mayor Eric Adams and the broader New York City government to do their full part in providing these migrants with the necessary means to survive and prosper within the 5 boroughs of New York City, such as housing, healthcare, and other services New York City or New York State can offer, without predatory tactics that hinder other organizations or groups that are only there to help.
